The Unemployed Lifestyle

I admit, I miss being unemployed.

Not that I am going to choose to go that route again anytime soon (Damn you Visa! Damn you American Express!), but I still wish that I could.

For instance, since I called in “Tactilely Defficient” today (sorry boss, I really don’t feel like going to work), I’ve gotten more done in my personal life than I have in the past two weeks combined. The boring stuff (dishes, laundry, cleaning dog hair out of the shower after his bath last weekend, etc) got taken care of quickly, and the non-boring stuff is well in the works (blogging, catching up on other’s blogs, sitting in the sun with my dog and “thinking” [ie, naptime], etc). It is truly unfortunate that no one will pay me to do stuff that I want to do, because damn I do it well.

On a side note, I think that I need to have more bartering in my life. I have no money, so I can’t buy stuff. But I have a bunch of stuff that I don’t use, and I can do other things for people (work for them you sick bastards, not “other” in the sense that they can and will have intimate knowledge of my bodily fluids in such a way that they come up with pet names for them ["Oh look, it's Stevie the Sperm"]). And all in all, barter works for more people than money. If someone doesn’t want what I have, then we don’t do business. But if they do, then we can make some sort of deal. It’s. That. Simple.

So, if you need someone to post to your blog, create a blog, update the usability of your website, find things on the internet, tell you about good new music, mow your lawn, walk your dog, trim your hair, or any other sort of thing like that, come talk to me and give me a list of stuff that you can do/are willing to do. Let’s make a deal.

  1. You know in some Native American languages, “bartering” is known as “Craigslist”.

  2. Believe me, I know. Just yesterday I managed to find myself an unworking laptop that I have already taken apart (speaking of, does anyone have any projects calling for a laptop LCD screen?), some home brewing equipment to brew my own beer, and a side table for my couch.

Oh, and it was all for free. I’m cheap, what can I say?
